Document Scanning Softwares
Document scanning software is very often provided with the scanner itself. This tends to take a very basic form, allowing the scanner to be used quickly “out of the box” although forgoing some more advanced functions. The software provided with home scanners should certainly be adequate, although the user may wish to use post-processing software (such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel PaintShop Pro) to achieve the final desired result.
Most software should allow a choice of resolution, brightness, contrast and colour saturation. Some scanners come supplied with software wish facilitates “continuous” scanning, which is particularly helpful if scanning a book. The software in this case allows the user to determine a particular save location, and saves each new scanned image with an incremental number. Once settings are set, one button-press is all that is required to scan each page. Software for use in commercial / production environments is far more expensive, but has far greater flexibility and functionality. For example, when scanning multiple pages, the first page can be “pre-scanned” to allow settings to be changed to suit, with an on-screen preview showing the results of settings changes. This commercial software can be set to remove borders, punch-holes, selected pages in the range scanned (e.g. all odd pages), all blank pages and dust marks. It can allow for all scanned pages to be reviewed before outputting to suitable image format, and allow the operator to rescan specific pages if necessary. It can also be set with fixed document sizes (when scanning many documents each with the same number of pages) or to detect document breaks via barcoded sheets inserted into the original paper documents.

Site redesign. Now 7 years old Document Scanning Resource has undergone a document scanning clearout and redesign. You may note a lot of older document scanning articles have gone. We felt as the industry moves so quickly some of the articles were no longer 'relevant' to the current marketplace so it was better to remove these during the redesign. If you have any questions please contact us.
